Mountain Courses
Mountain flying can be very rewarding, but also very challenging. For this reason Adventure Aviation offers two courses, a recreational and advanced mountain course to teach practical mountain flying essentials.
The recreational mountain course is designed to introduce you to mountains and enhance your flying skills and knowledge. Any fear of mountain flying will be converted into a combination of fun and respect. This half-day course is designed for sightseeing and cross-country traveling through the mountains. It includes inclement weather flying at an airport surrounded by mountainous terrain.
The advanced course provides a balance between safety and task completion. This course will include glacial flying, mountain search and rescue techniques, coastal inlets, numerous mountain airports and even a landing at an abandoned mountain strip. This three-day flight is included within Adventure Aviation's Commercial Pilot Course.
These courses have been developed by our Chief Flying Instructor, who spent many years and hours as a bush pilot and flight instructor in Northwestern BC. In addition to working with aircraft such as the Dehaviland Beaver, C-185, Navajo and Twin Otter, he has flown many hours in light recreational aircraft throughout the mountains. He has made many of the classic mistakes and learned from them, giving valuable insight to those new to the mountains.
We know that you will be a much better pilot having taken this mountain flying challenge. With added confidence, you and your passengers will enjoy the experiences that the mountains have to offer you.
